Use XP Driver For DVD?

I've been reading through all the posts having to do with the "missing driver" issue during the initial part of Vista install. I've tried all the workarounds that I can find, but still can't get past that step. The one item I haven't seen addressed is using a generic driver.
I have a 3 year old NEC DVD drive and a newer Sony drive. My normal setup is with the NEC drive as the master on the primary IDE channel. When I check the poperties of that drive in device manager in XP, it is just using a generic Microsoft DVD driver. How do I go about getting that driver (and whatever other files associated with it) on a floppy for the Vista install? This seems like a reasonable workaround, unless I'm missing something obvious.
Thanks!
